Credits for Red Seal Certification

Athabasca University now recognizes completed Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) Red Seal Certificates for transfer credit toward eligible undergraduate degree programs.

Applicants who have completed an Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) Red Seal Certificate may be eligible for transfer credit.

This transfer credit recognition currently applies only to completed Alberta AIT Red Seal Certificates.

When completing your application to Athabasca University, select Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) as a post-secondary institution.

After you have submitted your application, email a copy of your completed Alberta AIT Red Seal Certificate to enrol@athabascau.ca.

Athabasca University will verify your credential as part of the transfer credit evaluation process.

No. For Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) Red Seal transfer credit, submit only a copy of your completed Red Seal Certificate.

Athabasca University does not require apprenticeship transcripts from institutions such as NAIT, SAIT, Portage College, or other apprenticeship training providers for the purpose of assessing Alberta AIT Red Seal transfer credit.

If you have completed additional post-secondary education you would like considered for transfer credit, submit the required official transcripts for those studies.

Athabasca University verifies Alberta AIT Red Seal Certificates using the Government of Alberta's credential verification system.

If we need additional information to verify your credential, we will contact you.

Eligible applicants may receive up to 30 credits, depending on their chosen undergraduate program and applicable program regulations.

We assess transfer credit on an individual basis, and results may vary.

Once your application and supporting documentation have been reviewed, Transfer Credit Services will evaluate your credential and notify you of the transfer credit decision through the standard transfer credit communication process.
