Course Overview
As Canadian workplaces become ever more diverse and the forces of globalization draw more and more leaders, managers, and working professionals into business in other countries, the need for intercultural competence grows. LCCL 569: Cross-Cultural Leadership for Global Advantage is designed to enhance the intercultural competence of leaders, managers, and working professionals by providing opportunities to 1) build a working knowledge of how culture affects what goes on in the workplace, 2) explore the current state of one’s intercultural competence, and 3) apply one’s working knowledge to course discussions, exercises, and assignments.

- Lesson 1: Mapping the Terrain: An Introduction to Core Concepts
- Lesson 2: Exploring the Terrain: Cultural Values Around the World
- Lesson 3: Where Am I? Finding My Place in the Terrain
- Lesson 4: Advancing Through the Terrain: Developing Intercultural Competence
Course Objectives
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- demonstrate a higher level of intercultural competence in their leadership, management, or professional role;
- implement a development plan purposefully created to further develop their intercultural competence.
Student Evaluation
Students will be evaluated based on their participation in weekly online discussions (30%), a short exercise (5%), and three individual written assignments (20%, 20%, and 25%). To pass the course, students must achieve 60% or more on the discussion participation component and 60% or more as a combined average on the other credit activities.
