By hosting a virtual convocation, we’re building on the flexibility for which AU is known allowing more of our graduates to attend and celebrate with their loved ones no matter where they are located. Since we moved to a virtual convocation, we’ve had a greater number of grads attend convocation than ever before, from places such as India, Guyana, and Qatar.
Questions regarding requirements for graduation and application status can be directed to the Office of the Registrar by emailing grad-app@athabascau.ca.
If you complete all course requirements and apply to graduate prior to April 30, 2022, then you will be eligible to participate in Convocation 2022. If you finish your course/program after this date, then you will be invited to participate in Convocation 2023.
No, graduands are not required to participate in convocation—but we hope you will join the celebration acknowledging your incredible achievement!
We do require your consent to be part of AU's presentation of degrees, even if you do not virtually attend the event. If you want your name and degree to be announced in your absence so you can watch it at a later date, register for convocation and select "inclusion in the presentation of degrees" when asked to customize your experience.
Invitations to convocation will be sent to all those who have graduated in the months of July 2021 through April 2022 (inclusive) when registration opens the first week of May 2022. Those who graduate in the month of May 2022 will receive their invitation on the Monday following their graduation date.
Registration for Convocation 2022 is open from May 2 – 31, 2022. You can register for convocation from the link in your invitation or from the convocation website. When you have successfully completed and submitted your registration form online, you will receive an email confirming your registration and responses. Remember to check your junk mail folder as well.
Yes! You will not be able to access convocation or be included in AU's presentation of degrees otherwise! Registration opens on May 2, 2022 and can be accessed here. Eligible grads will also receive an email invitation with registration instructions. Don't forget to check your junk mail folder!
Not a problem! A recording of the ceremony will be posted to the convocation website. This can be shared with friends, family, and colleagues, so they can take part in your accomplishments—or host a virtual viewing party for you!
We do need your permission to include your name in the presentation of degrees. If you are unable to attend the live event but would like your name and photo to be included in presentation of degrees, you still need to register. Select "inclusion in the presentation of degrees" when asked to customize your experience.
If you are not attending and do not wish to be part of the presentation of degrees, there is no action required.
Yes! It wouldn't be a celebration without them! Family and friends can register to attend the virtual celebration when registration opens on May 2, 2022.
Yes, there will be plenty of opportunities to connect with classmates and network with graduates and faculty.
We only announce the names of grads who have given us permission to include their name in the ceremony. To opt in, register for convocation and select "inclusion in the presentation of degrees" when prompted to customize your convocation experience. You will also have the opportunity to provide proper pronunciation to ensure we get it right!
During the ceremony, you can expect to hear speeches from our platform party, Honorary Doctors, Order of AU recipients, the Governor General Medal winners, and the presentation of degrees.
Grad boxes will be shipped during the month of May to all eligible graduands that have applied to graduate. Your grad box will be mailed to the address listed on your MyAU account. If you apply to graduate during the month of April 2022, your grad box may not arrive until early June. For questions or to discuss a special circumstance, email convocation@athabascau.ca.
Our grad boxes won’t be ready until May as we wait for all the fun contents to arrive at AU.
If you are looking to have graduation portraits done, most photography studios will have the appropriate regalia for photos. A standard black bachelor or masters gown can be ordered through our supplier Gaspard if you are interested in purchasing one.
AU provides all graduands with a grad box, which is mailed mid-May, containing everything you need for convocation—including a black cap with tassel, and a hood for undergraduate and master graduates to be worn over a plain black suit or shirt. Graduands from certificate or diploma programs can wear a plain black suit or shirt with the black cap and tassel provided.
Gowns are not included, but a standard black bachelor or masters gown can be ordered through our supplier Gaspard if you are interested in wearing one.
Doctoral regalia can be purchased directly through Gaspard by submitting this form to grad_sales@gaspard.ca. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery.
AU offers graduation every month. On approval of your application to graduate, your parchment will be mailed to you, as we do with all graduates today. Please ensure that your mailing address is correct in your myAU account.
Your name, as it is recorded on your student academic record, will be displayed on the parchment. If you have recently changed your name or would like to make changes to the name on your student file, you must notify the Office of the Registrar by completing and submitting the student change of information form and emailing Academic Records at acrec@athabascau.ca.
You can find more information on where to purchase AU memorabilia on the convocation website or online at the AU store.
It must be an infrequent one! Please reach out to our team at convocation@athabascau.ca.
