Overview
NURS 530: NP Practice Consolidation is part of the Master of Nursing: Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) degree and the Post-Masters Diploma: Nurse Practitioner (PMD-NP) program.
In NURS 530, you will review the roles, responsibilities, and competencies of nurse practitioners and further develop your professional identity and vision for practice. Key concepts introduced earlier in the program, including leadership, transition to practice, collaborative and independent practice, and health policy, are revisited and integrated as you prepare to complete the program.
Outline
NURS 530 is a paced course delivered over 13 weeks using a blended learning approach that combines asynchronous online learning and regular synchronous virtual sessions.
Course content focuses on the consolidation and integration of knowledge, skills, and competencies required for entry-level nurse practitioner practice. Emphasis is placed on the following:
- Integration and consolidation of nurse practitioner competencies in preparation for entry-level practice
- Preparation for the nurse practitioner program comprehensive examination
- Transition to practice, including role implementation, professional identity, and readiness for independent, and collaborative practice
- Considerations in the provision of virtual care
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Identify issues related to the implementation and evaluation of nurse practitioner roles within the Canadian health care system;
- Consider the professional identity of the nurse practitionerand processes of role socialization;
- Examine concepts related to interprofessional practice in the health care system, including nurse practitionerleadership in collaborative teams;
- Analyze current issues influencing nurse practitionerpractice, including continuing competence, quality assurance and improvement, and life-long learning;
- Discuss the use of virtual care within the Canadian health care contaxt;
- As part of leadership, identify and advocate for processes to influencehealth policy, including the roles ofconsumers, health care providers, and the public;
- Identify strategies to support quality improvement in health care delivery;
- Meet the entry level competencies as identified by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (2023).
Evaluation
Assessment in NURS 530 consists of multiple course activities with assigned percentage weightings. Your final grade is based on overall performance across all required assessments. A variety of assessment approaches are used to evaluate achievement of the course learning outcomes.
