Graduate health studies and nursing course offerings
Athabasca University may modify the list of available courses at any time. Students are required to check course eligibility and prerequisites before attempting to register. Students who have registered for a course but have not completed the prerequisites will be withdrawn from the course.
Students who withdraw from a course any time after their course registration is finalized and up to the early withdrawal deadline (1 month after the course start date) will have their registration record deleted from their official transcript and will be refunded the course tuition, less the mandatory Course Withdrawal Processing Fee.
Note the scheduling of NP courses:
- NURS 518 may have limited seats in the fall term.
- NURS 000 is required for students taking Nurse Practitioner programs. Students will be registered by our program staff at the time of admission. Non-program students planning to apply for Nurse Practitioner programs may take the orientation course prior to admission. Non-program students can contact fhdgradadmin@athabascau.ca to register.
- The Indigenous Health and Wellness, Advocacy, and Allyship Certificate (0 credit) is required for all Nurse Practitioner students moving to the new curriculum (Anyone with a catalog term of 202609 or later).
- Course offering is contingent on a minimum enrolment of 10 students per course.
The Faculty of Health Disciplines has introduced 3 graduate-level Nursing, Health Studies and Counselling Psychology (NHCP) courses:
- NHCP 712 Advanced Qualitative Research
- NHCP 713 Advanced Quantitative Research
- NHCP 719 Thesis I: Proposal Development
All Faculty of Health Discipline graduate students who need the advanced research or Thesis I courses will now register in the NHCP course offering regardless of their FHD graduate program.
*Only newly admitted students and students approved to move to the new 202609 curriculum will register in NURS532, NURS536 and/or NURS612. Students remaining under the prior curriculum will continue to register in NURS 526, NURS 675, and NURS 610 as needed. If you are unsure which courses are part of your program, please visit DegreeWorks and reach out to the Graduate Program Advisors with any questions prior to registering.
