Dr. Henry Tsang, award-winning architect and associate professor, is the Chair of the RAIC Centre for Architecture. His design, teaching, and research work explore the intersections between sustainability, health, accessibility, and culture in the built environment. He currently teaches the virtual design studios and coordinates courses in the communication, professional, theory, and history streams.
Tsang is the founding principal of Henry Tsang Architect, based in Calgary, AB. With over 19 years of global experience in industry practice, he has worked with architecture firms in Calgary, Montreal, and Tokyo. He has edited and contributed to numerous books, including the Canadian Handbook of Practice for Architects, and his research works have also been published in international academic journals. He has been invited as guest speaker by the United Nations, TEDx, HPAIRx, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, as well as universities worldwide, i.e. University of Tokyo, Waseda University, Nihon University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hanyang University, University of Calgary, University of Alberta, University of Manitoba, University of British Columbia, Concordia University, McGill University, and so on. Prior to his current position, he held visiting professorships at Keimyung University in South Korea, the University of Tokyo in Japan and Herzing College in Montreal. In addition, he is currently appointed as a fellow and special advisor to professional practice to the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
Dr. Henry Tsang, AAA, FRAIC, RHFAC, LEED GA, WELL AP, completed his B.Sc.Arch. and M.Arch. at McGill University, and Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo as a MEXT Monbukagakusho Scholar. He is the recipient of the 2015 Educator of the Year Award by the National Association of Career Colleges, the 2020 Canadian Architect Award of Excellence, the 2021 Construction Canada Emerging Leader Award and the 2023 CBC Calgary Asian Changemaker.
