Message from the Provost

Dear Colleagues,

At the close of 2018, General Faculties Council brought to a conclusion an inclusive campus-wide development process by approving the Imagine Learning Framework. I am pleased to be able to share with you the final design version of our Learning Framework.

Responding to input from our student organizations, and representing the diligent and inspired work of many individuals and teams across the organization, the Imagine Learning Framework belongs to all of us at Athabasca University. Implementation of the Framework requires engagement from the entire community—and indeed, there is a great deal of activity in support of the Framework already underway in the Faculties and in other academic units.

We know that a transformative vision on this scale requires coordinated enterprise-wide efforts and investments. In this first year of implementation, the focus is on foundational efforts to support the Imagine Learning Framework. These include the exploration of a technology platform to support the virtual learning environment, the piloting of a new Student Information System, development of an Institutional Learning Outcomes Assessment Plan, the development of a Learning Resources Strategy, and other initiatives.

Over the coming weeks and months, we will be providing updates on our progress, both in terms of foundational and institution-wide efforts, as well as within the Faculties and other academic units. This will include a timeline of ongoing and upcoming efforts, as well as a regular spotlight on achievements to date.

In the meantime, I hope you are as pleased and proud as I am in what this final design of the Imagine Learning Framework says about Athabasca University’s commitment to learners everywhere and our determination to lead the way in innovative distributed education.

Sincerely,

Matthew Prineas, PhD
