Maria Skordaki leads a team responsible for improving operations and the environmental impact of military infrastructure across Canada. She worries about things like water quality on military bases so that members serving their country don’t have to.

When she decided to pursue a doctorate in Distance Education, she chose AU after hearing good things from colleagues in the military. The flexibility of online learning allowed her to work full time, where she could also put theory into practice. LINK IN BIO

This is great news! Keep it going by connecting with friends and family through phone, email, and social media. Try to set up a daily routine with activities such as connecting with someone, studying, or incorporating mindfulness, which many find helpful.

I am functioning well and keeping up with my studies! 🙂

Remember to keep a daily schedule of studies to keep you on track and set aside two hours a day per course. Connect with your tutor or academic expert if you need some support. And don’t forget to check in on your own mental health and wellness as part of your daily routine. Remind yourself you are doing well and keep positive about your studies and future opportunities!

Born and raised in Berbice, Guyana, Narine Dat Sookram struggled to adjust to life in Canada as a new immigrant. But he credits those same struggles with influencing his decision to help others through counselling and community volunteerism. LINK IN BIO

Julia Cornester has worked in a variety of nursing roles since she started practising in 2008. Even though she was helping patients on the front lines of health care, she didn’t feel like she was having the kind of impact she wanted.

After taking 7 courses in criminal justice with #AthabascaU while working on a General Studies degree, Chris Kayser knew he wanted to pursue a career in cybercrime prevention. After finishing a master's degree and a specialized criminal justice program, Kayser wrote a guidebook for online students, formed Cybercrime Analytics and started his work as a cybercriminologist.
