Bringing Athabasca University convocation north of the Arctic Circle

Class of 2023 grad Ephraim Warren gets a special convocation surprise in Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T.

Ephraim Warren (Master of Education in Open, Digital, and Distance Education ’23) wasn’t able to attend Athabasca University convocation on June 16, 2023, because he didn’t want to miss high school graduation at Mangilaluk School in Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T., where he’s been teaching for 15 years and now works as principal.

“I have seen these students grow over the years and wanted to take part in their special day,” Warren explained in an earlier interview with The Hub. “That’s more meaningful for me to witness.”

Since the popular principal wasn’t able to attend AU convocation, we decided to bring a little slice of convocation to him—some 3,400 kilometres away!

In this video, AU President Dr. Alex Clark shares a special congratulations with Mr. Warren and the entire Class of 2023 at Mangilaluk School.

Judging by the reaction, we think it was a memorable day for everyone!
