Dr. Jezzamyn (Jezz) Stone is an Assistant Professor in the Master of Counselling program at Athabasca University and a Registered Psychologist in Alberta. Her approach to clinical work, research, teaching, and supervision is grounded in the belief that people are best understood within their relationships, systems, and contexts.
Dr. Stone’s clinical work is relational, systems-based, and trauma-informed. She supports individuals, couples, families, and groups through critical events, life transitions, and everyday stressors. Her expertise includes relational patterns, attachment, parenting, emotional processing, anxiety, and trauma. With prior experience in private, community, and university settings, she continues to see clients through her own practice.
Her research explores how couples and families navigate stress, adversity, and major life transitions, with a focus on interpersonal patterns. Through a social constructionist lens, Dr. Stone is interested in how relational processes both shape and are shaped by people’s contexts, circumstances, and histories. She is committed to knowledge mobilization, making research accessible and useful to clinicians, families, and communities, and increasing the presence of family systems perspectives in counselling and mental health research.
As an educator and supervisor, Dr. Stone values collaboration, reflexivity, and humility so that students can develop ethically grounded professional identities and competence. She aims to create learning environments that balance support with constructive feedback, normalize mistakes and the discomforts of learning, and invite students to think critically about power, culture, and context. She encourages students to build sustainable professional lives rooted in self-awareness, boundaries, commitment, and care for themselves and others.
