Annette came to Athabasca University at the beginning of 2015. Her expertise is in geriatric mental health. Her research has mainly focused on older adults in long-term care (LTC) facilities. She has co-authored a number of peer reviewed articles examining the experiences of family members when a loved one transitions to LTC, satisfaction of family members with care in LTC facilities, learning of staff working in a LTC program for those aging with a developmental disability, the nature of transitions in those with dementia, spiritual care for those with dementia, aging adults experiencing homelessness, and health promotion with older adults. She has also published on issues in education (e.g., instructor-student boundaries, the timing of practicums for nursing students in LTC facilities, geriatric content in nursing and social work programs), and about online education. She has published two texts, with one – Older adults: Understanding and facilitating transitions – currently in 3rd edition.
Annette has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on issues germane to aging and mental health. She enjoys working with undergraduate and graduate students.
