Allyson Koch, MN, RN, CCCI, is an Academic Coordinator in Athabasca University’s Faculty of Health Disciplines. She brings more than a decade of nursing experience in acute medical-surgical care, alongside experience teaching nursing theory, laboratory, and clinical courses. Allyson holds a Master of Nursing in Teaching and Leadership and a Post-LPN Bachelor of Nursing with Distinction from Athabasca University. She is pursuing a PhD in Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan, maintains registered nurse registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), and holds the Canadian Certified Clinical Instructor (CCCI) credential through the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN).

Allyson’s research interests centre on clinical nursing instruction and the Post-LPN to BN transition, informed by her own progression from LPN to RN and her work supporting adult learners. Her scholarship explores clinical instructor preparation, institutional support, equitable assessment, and professional identity development in nursing education. Guided by constructivist and invitational approaches to teaching, she emphasizes learners’ existing knowledge, reflective practice, and the development of clinical judgment. She has developed practical teaching and learning tools, including standardized concept maps, clinical shift planners, and orientation resources, to support learner preparation, organization, and consistency in clinical education. Through teaching, mentorship, and academic leadership, she strives to strengthen clinical learning experiences and support nurses as they advance their education and professional practice.
