Why was online learning at Athabasca University the right fit for you?
Online learning at Athabasca was the right choice for me because it matches both my current life responsibilities and my long-term goals. I was looking for an education path that offered flexibility, credibility, and independence. I wanted a relevant and effective education that would allow me to balance my personal commitments with my professional goals ... Athabasca University has done just that.
How has studying at AU helped you achieve your goals (personal, professional, academic)?
Studying at Athabasca is helping me move closer to my goals by giving me access to high-quality education that fits my personal, academic, and professional goals. Effective course selection, flexible start dates, supportive staff, and ongoing help whenever needed have been incredibly valuable.
What obstacles have you had to overcome to pursue your education? How did you overcome them?
The biggest obstacle that I have had to overcome is learning how to balance being a full-time mother, employee, and now a student. There are times when it feels challenging to give enough attention to everything at once, but I have learned how to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and remain committed to my future goals.
It takes a lot of coffee and just enough obsession with what you’re learning to commit to studying daily.

How do you balance your studies with other responsibilities like work or family?
Balancing my studies with other commitments requires strong organization, precise planning, and daily focus. It takes a lot of coffee and just enough obsession with what you’re learning to commit to studying daily. Knowing why you do what you do and reminding yourself of your end goals helps with staying on track and working hard towards getting the degree.
Who is your biggest cheerleader that helps you stay focused on your goals?
My husband and my children are my biggest support and inspiration. They push me daily to commit to my goals and show my children that giving up on your dreams and goals is never an option. My future career goals keep me accountable to remain focused and consistent with my learning.
What's your favourite course?
PSYC 302 (Biological Psychology), PSYC 323 (Developmental Psychology), PSYC 395 (Forensic Psychology) and WGST 333 (Goddess Mythology, Women's Spirituality and Ecofeminism) so far.
What are your plans for the future, after completing your AU program?
I am planning to apply for the Master of Counselling program at Athabasca University.
How is your AU education different than what you've experienced previously? (a.k.a. How is AU Like No Other?)
Consistent and effective support from staff and tutors, credible and reliable sources, straightforward communication, and ongoing guidance. Athabasca University makes you feel welcomed and supported no matter how ambitious your academic goals may be.
