Bachelor of Arts, Women's and Gender Studies Major - Barbara Roberts Memorial Award
Purpose
This annual award recognizes outstanding written work done by an undergraduate program student on topics related to women, gender, and feminism. The winning essay will be published on this dedicated FHSS website.
Recipients of the Barbara Roberts Memorial Award receive a cash award of $1000.
Procedure
- Eligibility criteria
- Current AU undergraduate program students are eligible to apply
- The essay must have been completed as part of an AU undergraduate course within the previous award year and must have been graded
- The essay is a minimum of 2,500 words and a maximum of 7,500 words (excluding footnotes and bibliography)
- The essay is imaginative, thoughtful, critical, and well written
- The evidence used in the essay is clearly documented
- The author addresses the diversity of gendered experience, and applies intersectional feminist analysis
- Submission process
- The application form is accessed via the Student Awards System
- The application form is typically open by January 1
- The annual deadline for application submission is May 31
- Recipient must complete the Student Work Product Use Authorization form as part of the post-award acceptance processes
- One submission per student per year will be considered
- Students are eligible to receive the award one time only
Selection committee
The Barbara Roberts Memorial Award committee consists of
- one full-time academic in Women's and Gender Studies
- one full-time academic outside of Women's and Gender Studies
- one tutor in Women's and Gender Studies
