Overview
Most writing occasions in university call for the use of a variety of documentation styles to give credit to sources and to avoid plagiarism. In the left margin information under Citation Styles: you’ll find information on formatting in the most commonly used styles. If you need help with a style not listed below, please contact your tutor or the Write Site Assistant Coordinator for assistance.
In the left margin information under Plagiarism: you’ll find information on plagiarism—what it is and how to avoid it. Most plagiarism among first year university students occurs inadvertently because of a lack of knowledge, so if you’re in doubt, check out the plagiarism tutorials and test your knowledge.
Research is also a critical part of university-level academic writing, so there is also a link in the left margin information under Library Basics: to self help library resources that will help you do a library search or locate reliable sources for your essays. You can even find out how to access other universities’ collections or download a free copy of RefWorks to keep all your references organized. If you don’t find what you’re looking for at the links in the left margin, you can contact a librarian.
