Vacancy –Board of Governors of Athabasca University

We are seeking nominations to populate the following vacancy on the Board of Governors:

  • Non-academic member of the staff of Athabasca University nominated by the non-academic staff

Eligibility

Permanent Support Staff and Excluded Support Staff, Excluded Professional Staff and Excluded Management Staff are eligible for nomination.  Only members of these groups are eligible to nominate an individual for this position.

Points to Consider

Section 54 of the Post-secondary Learning Act defines those persons who are not eligible to be a member of the Board of Governors of Athabasca University. Section 54 states:

“54. A person who is an employee of the board of a public post-secondary institution may not be appointed as or remain a member of the board if the person

  • is a voting member of the executive body or an officer of an academic or non-academic staff association of that public post-secondary institution, or
  • has the responsibility, or the joint responsibility with others, of negotiating with the board, on behalf of the academic or non-academic staff association of that public post-secondary institution, the terms and conditions of service of members of the association.”

Should more than one (1) eligible nomination be received, an election will be conducted through a confidential voting software (Simply Voting) to determine the successful nominee.
