Deborah Meyers, Interim President

Deborah Meyers took over as interim president of Athabasca University on April 1, 2021. She joined AU in September 2018 as the vice-president finance and administration and chief financial officer. Meyers brings a background of strong leadership, mentorship, and a service-based culture to the role of interim president.

She is well-known as an inclusive, consultative, mindful leader and decision-maker with significant experience in systems thinking and senior executive leadership. She has worked diligently to increase the sophistication of AU’s financial analysis and to build transparency, accountability, and excellence through new policies, applications and processes. Before joining AU, Meyers served as chief financial officer and vice-president administrative services at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

She has been involved in change leadership, financial oversight and administration in higher education, K-12 education, government, and crown corporations for more than 30 years.
