Delivery Mode: Individualized study online
Credits: 3
Area of Study: Applied Studies
(Business and Administrative Studies)
Prerequisite: None. HRMT 386 or ORGB 386 is recommended but not required.
Precluded Course: HRMT 387 is a cross-listed course—a course listed under two different disciplines—with ORGB 387. HRMT 387 may not be taken for credit by students who have obtained credit in ORGB 387.
Faculty: Faculty of Business
HRMT 387 is not available for challenge.
HRMT 387 is designed to complement HRMT 386: Introduction to Human Resource Management, or a similar introductory course offered by another college or university. It is therefore not designed to cover all of the personnel management or employee relations issues addressed in such courses. Before starting this course, students should have taken HRMT 386/ORGB 386, or an equivalent course.
The course makes extensive use of Human Resource Management: Theory and Practice, (5th edition) by John Bratton and Jeff Gold, a text which attempts to provide an accessible, comprehensive guide to the field. The course commentaries are intended to provide some Canadian data as well as the employee’s or worker's perspective on many of the topics discussed to balance out the dominant corporate views associated with human resource management (HRM).
The course is divided into four units.
To receive credit for HRMT 387, you must complete all of the assignments, and achieve at least 50% on each one. The weighting of the composite grade is as follows:
Assignment 1 | Assignment 2 | Assignment 3 | Assignment 4 | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|
25% | 25% | 25% | 25% | 100% |
