Precluded courses: HIST 315 is a cross-listed course—a course listed under three different disciplines—with GLST 315 or WGST 315. (HIST 315 may not be taken for credit by students who have obtained credit for GLST 315 or WGST 315.)

HIST 315 has a Challenge for Credit option.


History 315 is designed as a survey course of women’s experiences in Asian society. It covers the historical period from pre-colonial time to contemporary era, but emphasis is given to the 20th century, an era in which significant economic changes and political turbulences occurred in Asia.

  • Unit 7: Women in Confucian Capitalist Countries: Singapore/South Korea/Taiwan
  • Unit 8: The Changing Identities of Women in Maoist and Post-reformist China


To receive credit for HIST 315, you must achieve a minimum grade of 50 percent on the final examination and a composite course grade of at least “D” (50 percent). The weighting of the course assignments is as follows:
