Isabelle Jensen
Bachelor of Arts, Anthropology Major

📍 Edmonton, Alta.

Why was online learning at Athabasca University the right fit for you?

Being able to work full time while I was in school was important to me, especially over the last five years.

How has studying at AU helped you achieve your goals (personal, professional, academic)?

I was able to connect with professors who helped me find jobs in the field that corresponds to my degree, and by extension I've been able to meet many other passionate and knowledgeable professionals that have inspired and helped me move up.

What obstacles have you overcome to pursue your education? How did you overcome them?

Having attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has made getting a degree online difficult but over the course of my education, and with the support of some understanding tutors, I was able to overcome that obstacle and complete my degree with honours, an accomplishment I never would have thought possible before starting at AU.

Who is your biggest cheerleader that helps you stay focused on your goals?

My sister, who is an empathetic ear. During my studies, she always pushed me forward and helped me stay focused in big and small ways. Our frequent study sessions to keep each other on track were extremely important to me.

What's your favourite course?

ANTH 402 – Ethnographic Research Methods was a course I was very surprised to have enjoyed as much as I did.

What are you plans for the future, after completing your AU program?

Getting my master's degree in anthropology.

How is your AU education different than what you've experienced previously? (a.k.a. How is AU like no other?)

It was challenging, and occasionally frustrating, but also more flexible than I could have gotten elsewhere.
