Athabasca University (AU) President, Dr. Neil Fassina provided some insights on how knowledge is still an important tool in today’s career toolbox.
Sitting down with Business in Edmonton, Fassina discussed how AU is approaching the shift that we’re seeing in today’s marketplace and how AU is providing education options that are still relevant. With the globally connected and complex economy of today, knowledge, both technical and non-technical in nature, is essential in bridging practical skills with important non-technical skills like critical thinking, communication, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness.

Education enables learners to systematically develop, strengthen, adapt, and apply their knowledge in today’s marketplace as well as the marketplaces of the future. In many cases, an individual’s knowledge is recognized through a formal certificate, diploma, or degree. These credentials are heavily relied upon during recruitment and selection processes in today’s economy.”
