Message to students from President Peter Scott
Message to students from Athabasca University President Dr. Peter Scott
On Aug. 11, we learned through the media that Alberta’s minister of Advanced Education has said he is open to discuss the recent changes he’s made to AU’s investment management agreement (IMA) with the university. The details in the IMA, particularly AU’s vision, mission, and mandate, are foundational to our forward path, and we hope to set up a meeting with the minister shortly.
I am grateful for the opportunity to resume a cooperative relationship with the ministry. I am confident that together, we will resolve the concerns that have recently arisen in our community about the future of AU.
I appreciate that news of these changes has created uncertainty for members of our community, and particularly our students. Please know that AU’s operations have not been affected and we remain committed to supporting your success throughout your educational journey.
“It is so heartening, and frankly humbling, to see your commitment to your education and to the mission of this university.”
– Dr. Peter Scott, president
I would like to thank you, our students, who continue to use your powerful voices to share your concerns with us and with the minister. It is so heartening, and frankly humbling, to see your commitment to your education and to the mission of this university.
I assure you that as president, I will do everything in my power to work with the minister and our stakeholders to find the right path forward for AU and for our learners. Your continued support and advocacy are critical as we make progress.
