Why was online learning at Athabasca University the right fit for you?

As a full-time employed wife and mother of two, the only way I would be able to attend post-secondary was online through Athabasca University.

How has studying at AU helped you achieve your goals (personal, professional, academic)?

I accomplished my goal to complete the degree program, which helped in my career, and I also went out of my comfort zone by getting involved in the student experience through the students’ union.

What obstacles have you had to overcome to pursue your education? How did you overcome them?

Procrastination was a huge hurdle because at the end of a long day working and taking care of my kids, I just wanted to decompress. I chipped away at my courses, taking my options all at once and focusing on my core courses one at a time. It was an unconventional way, but it worked best for me!

How do you balance your studies with other responsibilities like work or family?

Evening and weekends were my time for my studies. I have an extremely supportive spouse, who went above and beyond to make space for me to study!

Who is your biggest cheerleader that helps you stay focused on your goals?

My kids and my spouse! I also am so grateful for the study buddies in the BHRLR program (turned into online friends) that I met along the way!

What's your favourite course?

INBU 386 – Introduction to Indigenous Human Resources

What are you plans for the future, after completing your AU program?

I’m eager to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained from my degree to my current role.

How is your AU education different than what you've experienced previously? (a.k.a. How is AU like no other?)

My education was done on my own terms, which was very important to me.
