Storytelling Trans Futures
Overview
This project is seeking a temporary, part-time Research Assistant 3, Range 1 for a qualitative digital storytelling research project at Athabasca University. The "Storytelling Trans Futures" research project will collaborate with Two Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming Albertans to imagine innovative trans futures by building digital storytelling worlds.
The primary job duties for the field research assistant Research Assistant 3, Range 1 will include:
- maintain email account and general administration duties
- maintain social media and promotions; create info graphics
- attend regular meetings with the Pl and research team
- conduct complex literature reviews
- conduct semi-structured or unstructured interviews when required
- assist with storytelling methodology, including facilitation
- perform quantitative or qualitative data analysis, or both, under general supervision conduct moderately complex programming
- prepare and writes draft reports
- manage aspects of projects independently; may supervise other Research Assistants
- assist with development of Research instruments
- conduct participant recruitment, promotion, and scheduling
- assist with preparing materials for ethics review
- participate actively in Research dissemination (e.g., drafting presentations, designing visuals, co-presenting papers or posters, assisting in responding to inquiries about the Research)
- complete other research-related tasks as needed
The successful candidate will work with, and directly report to, Dr. Tobias Wiggins at Athabasca University.
Qualifications
- completion of an undergraduate degree or undertaking a graduate degree. A number of disciplinary specializations will be considered, including but not limited to, Gender Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Political Science, and Sociology.
- six to seven years of education, experience, or combination of both, including specialized skills related to the area
- judgment and analytic skills
- research interests and/or experience in any of the following: transgender studies, intersectionality, mental health, social determinants of health, psychology, race and racism, Indigenous and decolonial studies, disability, feminist research, community-based research, digital worlds, queer and feminist technologies, social justice, advocacy and activism
- research, work, service, or lived experience with TNB2S people and communities
- experience conducting or planning quantitative research studies such as transcription, data analysis, or literature reviews is an asset
- Pre-established connections and networks within Alberta TNB2S and activist communities will be considered an additional asset. In light of COVID-19, work for this position will take place remotely. Should circumstances change during the time period of this work, there will be opportunities for the successful candidate to work in-person with the research team.
The position is based in Alberta.
