Overview
This project is part of a SSHRC funded exploration of community network longevity, focusing on community networks in Argentina and Mexico. This aspects of the project is designing a ‘road map’ for community network building suitable for print and/or digital circulation.
Specific activities include, but are not limited to: gathering content related to network design, installation and maintenance, and community mobilizing for community network development, along with design of content presentation in a ‘road map’ / toolkit document
This project will (1) assemble materials relevant to the many stages of community network development, including technical, community relations, financial, governance, vision, expansion, etc. with a view to offering a ‘road map’ for collaborative community network building. (2) present these materials in a compelling, accessible and helpful design that works in both print and digital contexts.
The primary job duties for the field research assistant (RA‐Category 4) will include: Content production and design; working with a designer; overseeing additional research assistance as required.
The successful candidate will work with, and directly report to, Dr. Michael Lithgow at Athabasca University.
Qualifications:
- Extensive background in computer science and/or communications (Masters degree preferred).
- Community network development experience (required).
- Community network development experience in South America (preferred).
- Familiarity with community network and HCI literatures (required).
- Familiarity with mesh network technologies (required).
- Spanish language ability (preferred).
The position is based online.
