Alex Clark is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and former Associate Vice President (Research) and Professor at the University of Alberta. His advocacy and other contributions for research, mentorship and leadership skills in academia have been featured in the Guardian, Nature, Times Higher Education and numerous professional journals. With Bailey Sousa, he writes a monthly column in University Affairs and co-wrote the 2018 SAGE book: "How to be a Happy Academic". He had or continues to hold positions as Chair of a range of tri-agency and provincial funding bodies. A complexity theorist drawing on realism by background, his research on heart disease has influenced practice, guidelines and policy, globally and been in some of the world’s most influential journals, including: The Lancet, British Medical Journal, Journal of Advanced Nursing, Journal of American College of Cardiology and Social Science & Medicine.
