- hat is the distribution of authorship and scholarship within different journals across the different tiers of academic journals?
The research is not externally funded.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the principal researchers, the Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) will work with an existing data archive of scholarly articles to extract information about authorship and scholarship at two levels of analysis: individual authors and research articles. The main tasks are data entry into a comprehensive database and expansion of the data archive. Data to be extracted from the research articles includes (1) names, institutional affiliation, job title, home country, and authorship positions of authors, as well as (2) page length, time to acceptance, research methods used, data types, key words, and number of authors of articles. Additional tasks include collecting information about author prestige through citation indices obtained in Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus. Some investigative work will be required to identify institutional positions/jobs of authors. Finally, the GRA will tabulate the data, compute numerical indicators of diversity, and plot them into several different presentation formats for analysis and interpretation.

The ideal candidate is an AU Doctoral student with extensive experience in reading scholarly journal articles in disciplines related to business and management. The successful candidate will have successfully completed separate seminars in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, must have access to the internet, and be versed in the use of Microsoft Excel.
