Research assistant – casual position

Overview:
The proposed project, Digital Imaginations and the Decameron Storyworld (DIDS), involves the production of a creative output, a Unity-coded explorable digital storyworld referred to as the Decameron 2.0, that will be developed through research and disseminated through research -creation platforms such as online spaces and art exhibitions. This output will be supplemented by more traditional dissemination platforms such as academic conferences and scholarly journals. Research activities will be jointly supervised by Dr. Jolene Armstrong (AU) and Dr. Monique Tschofen (TMU)
Specific activities include, but are not limited to:
- Organization of files that are relevant to research project.
- ocating exhibition opportunities
- Locating funding opportunities, develop additional grant applications such as SSHRC IG, Connection funding and Canada Council grants
- Developing research resources such as: zotero database, annotated bibliographies and literature reviews
- assisting with copy-editing of academic papers and presentations
- learning archival skills and assisting a project collaborator with archival management of digital assets of the Decameron 2.0
The successful candidate will work with, and directly report to, Dr. Armstrong at Athabasca University. Dr. Tschofen at Toronto Metropolitan University will also provide supervision, training and guidance for the required tasks.
Qualifications:
- exceptional research skills
- experience with zotero or other bibliographic software (we can provide some training)
- ease at navigating virtual work environments (google drives, drop box, etc…)
- copyediting skills
- superior organization skills
- interest in developing archival skills
The successful candidate will be trained in project management, archival and library research, bibliographic and digital asset management, and producing literature reviews, and copy editing to assist PIs and collaborators' scholarly dissemination. The RA will be offered the opportunity for online career -readying training in digital humanities research methods and digital tools through the Digital Humanities Summer Institute. Additionally, the RA will gain Archival and library research skills, project management skills to support a large inter-University research network, grantsmanship, producing lit reviews and editing for submission to a peer reviewed publication- skills which are translatable to a wide range of careers.
The position is virtual, but PIs are located in Alberta and Ontario. Meetings will take place virtually and work will be carried out in a virtual work environment.
