How do I become an Athabasca University student?

Becoming a student is as simple as completing the application forms and paying the required fees.

We recommend that you go through the following steps:

  1. Use our self-assessment and learning resource to make sure AU is right for you.
  2. Explore our courses and programs.
  3. Before you register, make sure that you have the course prerequisites. If you need advice, contact Advising Services.
  4. Complete the undergraduate or graduate application form.
  5. Pay the non-refundable application fee. See methods of payment.

Once you have paid your application fee, you can register for undergraduate courses right away.


A Confirmation of Enrolment letter will be sent within 48 hours after your application has been processed. If you do not receive confirmation, contact the Office of the Registrar at 1-800-788-9041 (in Canada or the U.S.) or (780) 675-6100.
