Planning your MBA while receiving full-time student funding

Students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA/GDM) program can apply for full-time student funding after they have been admitted to the program and paid the non-refundable application and admission fee. Because of the way the MBA/GDM program is structured, there are additional registration and funding requirements before you apply.

Before you apply for funding

Before you can apply for full-time student funding:

  • You must be registered in your courses for the applicable funding year
  • You are responsible for paying your tuition by the applicable tuition due dates
  • Tuition cannot be requested directly from your province or the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC)
  • Some MBA/GDM courses may not be eligible for funding because of program and funding requirements

Registering in your courses

Before applying for funding:

Step 1: Email fbgradenrol@athabascau.ca to confirm with your Graduate Program Advisor that you are applying for full-time graduate funding. Your advisor will help register you in the courses required for your funding year.

Step 2: Enrol in at least 12 weeks of continuous study within the same academic year. Courses must be taken back-to-back with no more than a two-week break between them.

An academic year runs from Aug. 1 to July 31.

MBA course lengths are:

  • 3-credit courses: 8 weeks
  • 6-credit courses: 10 weeks

Because neither course length meets the 12-week funding requirement on its own, a single MBA course is not eligible for funding.

Apply for student funding

Step 1: Email fbgradenrol@athabascau.ca to complete your course registrations.

Step 2: Submit your Graduate Full-time Course Registration Plan.

When submitting your Course Registration Plan, you can select only September, January, or May. AU will review your plan and adjust it, if needed, to meet funding eligibility requirements.

Step 3: Apply for student financial assistance.

If this is your first time applying as an MBA/GDM student, watch for emails containing your financial assistance agreements. These agreements must be reviewed and signed before your province and the NSLSC can process your funding.

Step 4 (required for some provinces): If requested after your funding application has been approved, email a copy of your Notice of Assessment to sfa@athabascau.ca.

Information for Alberta students

Do not apply for Alberta Student Aid until you have submitted your Student Financial Aid Course Registration Plan and your study dates have been updated in the Alberta Student Aid portal. Applying before your study dates are corrected will require you to submit a new application.

Withdrawing from courses while receiving funding

If you withdraw from a course while receiving student funding, you must notify sfa@athabascau.ca. Changes to your course registration may affect your funding eligibility.
