MBA in Hockey Management
Please note that the hockey program is currently not accepting new applicants.
Athabasca University has collaborated with the Business of Hockey Institute (BHI) to develop an elite graduate-level online Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Hockey Management. For the first time in hockey’s history, there is a program to develop leaders in the boardroom, rather than on the ice.

Structure and curriculum
The MBA in Hockey Management follows the same program as AU’s regular online MBA for executives, with additional content focused on the hockey industry. These additional courses make up the Certified Hockey Professional (CHP) designation, which you will earn as part of your MBA.
The online MBA for executives brings together industry leaders, managers, executives, and academics to debate, exchange ideas, conduct research, and collaborate. Students from hockey-related industries add rich perspectives on corporate partnerships, revenue generation, and leveraging fan involvement beyond the game.
The curriculum is challenging. It concentrates on the key management areas affecting organizational performance (strategy, accounting, analytics, human resources, finance, marketing, operations) as these disciplines affect the game of hockey and its business operations.
All courses are paced, with scheduled start and end dates and assignment deadlines within each course. Courses are also asynchronous, so you never have to be online at a particular time.
Plan to spend 20–25 hours per week on your studies.
A 2-phase program
The online MBA in Hockey Management has 2 phases. Phase 1 is made up of foundational courses concentrating on the management areas that make a difference to organizational performance. In phase 2, the courses delve deeply into hockey-related issues, opportunities, and operating environments.
