Overview

HADM 488: Risk Management and Safety in Health Services is an undergraduate course designed to introduce students to risk management concepts. The course provides a thorough introduction to health-care risk management as it should be practiced in health-care environments. It is appropriate for direct care providers, supervisors and managers, executives, patient representatives, quality managers, patient safety officers, and risk managers.

Unit 4: Relation of Risk Management to Other Critical Health Care Management Functions

Unit 5: Risk Information Sources and Loss Control Processes

Unit 6: Special Topics in Risk Management

Unit 7: Clinical and Sector Risks in Health Care Systems

Evaluation

As you work through Risk Management and Safety in Health Services, you will complete two assignments, a term paper and a closed-book final examination. The table below shows the weight accorded each credit activity.

To receive credit for HADM 488, you must achieve a minimum composite course grade of “D” (50 percent) and a mark of 50 percent or more on each assignment, as well as the final examination.

The final examination for this course must be taken online with an AU-approved exam invigilator at an approved invigilation centre.
