Overview

CMIS 314: Web Applications with VBNet illustrates the wide variety of features that can be built into web-based business applications using Visual Web Developer (VWD). It builds on the Visual Basic (VB) skills developed in CMIS 214 for building Windows applications. VB is one of the tools used in this course to build web applications. You will also learn about related tools and technology as well as the SQL database language. This course does not provide an exhaustive study of VWD web programming as this is well beyond the scope of a single course.

Outline

CMIS 314 consists of the following seven lessons of study:

  • Unit 1: Introduction to the Internet and Web Design with Visual Web Developer (VWD)
  • Unit 2: Using the IDE and an Introduction to HTML
  • Unit 3: Working with Server Controls
  • Unit 4: Developing Multipage Web Sites
  • Unit 5: Introduction to SQL Server and Relational Databases
  • Unit 6: Developing Applications That Use Databases
  • Unit 7: Web Development; Next Steps

Evaluation

To receive credit for CMIS 314, you must write a final examination. Although assignments are important for your learning and you are strongly encouraged to complete them, you are not required to complete and submit each assignment in order to pass the course. If you do not complete an assignment, you will receive zero for that assignment. You must achieve a passing grade of at least 50% on the final examination and an overall course grade of at least “D” (50 percent).
