Tutors - Your Academic Link to AU

When you are an AU student, your tutors are your main academic links to the university. AU’s tutors are dedicated to helping you learn at a distance. Never feel reluctant to contact your tutor on any course-related matter.

Meeting Your Tutor

When you register for an individualized study course, you will be notified, by mail or e-letter, as you choose, of your tutor’s name, address, e-mail address, phone number and tutoring hours (If you choose the e-letter option, you will access it online through the myAU student portal. If you have not received this notification within one week of your course start date or if you misplace the information, contact Learning Services Tutorial.

Tutor Availability

Because AU is committed to offering individualized study courses year-round, a tutor may sometimes be unavailable due to illness, vacation or statutory holidays. In the case of planned absences, either the university or the tutor will give you advance notice of an absence so that you can allow for it in your study plan for the course. These absences will be for no more than 10 business days. When longer absences are necessary, alternate tutoring arrangements will be made for you. To enquire about tutor availability, contact Learning Services Tutorial.

Contacting a Tutor

During established tutor hours, you can call your tutor directly, toll-free, from anywhere in Canada or the U.S. You can leave a voice-mail or e-mail message for a tutor at any time, and he or she will respond within two business days. If you live outside Canada and the U.S., communicating with your tutors by email is the most economical option; if you choose to telephone, it must be at your own expense.

School of Business Call Centre

Most School of Business courses provide access to a Call Centre and academic experts rather than to individual tutors. When you register in a School of Business course that uses the Call Centre model, you will be provided with the Call Centre’s toll-free telephone number before your course start date.
