Bachelor of Human Resources and Labour Relations: Post Diploma

Number of credits required from Athabasca University: 24 credits.

Maximum credit awarded in this program for prior learning through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) processes: 6 credits.

Program Learning Outcomes

As a result of completing this program, students should be able to

  • show familiarity with disciplinary knowledge sufficient to wield it with confidence and discrimination.
  • show insight into relationships among applicable theories and concepts as well as their connection to disciplinary practices and/or to other disciplines.
  • use the tools, mechanisms and processes of critical thinking consciously and systematically.
  • produce organized, systematic and dependably sound written work related to the discipline.
  • use disciplined, reasoned and forceful logical arguments related to the discipline.
  • use advanced skill in interpreting intersection with knowledge from other disciplines.
  • demonstrate knowledge of detailed historical and developmental data related to one or more specialized areas within the discipline.
  • demonstrate a systematic and thorough practical and theoretical grasp of disciplines from a body of knowledge and its source.
  • demonstrate an advanced capacity to promote understanding of the scope and depth of knowledge related to the discipline.

  • Human Resources: recruitment and selection, job analysis, compensation and benefits, evaluation and performance appraisal, training and development, discipline and termination, and learning and work.
  • Labour Relations: negotiations, contract interpretation and grievance handling, grievance and rights arbitration, and employment and labour law.
