Steve Schafer
Hi, I'm Steve Schafer. I have been with Athabasca University
Library for over 10 years and I enjoy talking to AU students about their
information and library needs. Prior to choosing a career in distance education
librarianship I was a distance education student, completing a second degree
through AU in 1987. "Distance education does work; it requires hard work
and determination." Following my graduation from AU, I began a Masters program;
completing my thesis, An Investigation of Student Use of the Supplementary
Materials List at Athabasca University, (1991, MLIS, University of Alberta).
I enjoy running, playing fluegelhorn, spending time at home with my family, cooking, working in our yard, camping, hiking, and learning more about wildflowers. I also have done a little paper tole and I enjoy refinishing old furniture.
As Director, Library Services, I am very excited about the developments and trends in the use of computers, especially as they become tools for accessing and acquiring information.
Athabasca University Library is here to help you with your information needs as they relate to the AU courses that you are taking. Please contact the Library Information Desk and give us an opportunity to serve you.
Again, welcome to Athabasca University! Please e-mail me if you have comments.
