How to Use This Student Handbook
This Handbook is designed as your guide to Athabasca University (AU). We hope you will use it whenever a question arises throughout the course of your studies.
Each section of this Handbook provides important information that should help make your studies with AU enjoyable and rewarding. This Handbook is also your source of contact information and your guide to Internet resources at AU.
Although it isn't a formal contract or agreement, the Handbook is designed to provide you with quick reference and general information about AU, course instructional methods, and AU services. To learn about current regulations, visit the online Calendar. If there is a discrepancy between the online Calendar and other information (for example, print material), the online version will apply.
If you are unsure of the meaning of a word or expression used in this Handbook, refer to the Glossary.
At the end of most sections is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) list compiled from questions that students have asked in the past. In preparing the FAQs, we have tried to anticipate questions that you may ask.
Our Information Centre is the "front-line service" to AU students. If the attendants can't answer your questions, they'll direct you to the appropriate person.
