Request to Access Information


 

In many cases it is not necessary to apply under the Freedom of Information and protection of Privacy Act to obtain information. Contact the office responsible for the records and request access to the records. If the requested information is not normally make available to the public, a request for the information can be made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

A request must be in writing. The request can be made using the request to access information form or by writing a letter indicating that you are making the request under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The forms are available here Request to Access Information form (pdf) or by contacting the Privacy and Policy Coordinator and requesting a form be sent to you.

When making a request by letter

The University must respond to your request within 30 days of receiving it if they can. If more time is required you will be advised of when the response will be provided.

The Act allows for certain fees to be charged. An initial fee of $25.00 will be charged for a request for information that is not your own personal information, or $50.00 for a request for information that is not your own personal information but that you wish to be a continuing request. Additional fees may also be charged. If an initial fee is required, it must be paid before the request will be processed. If there are additional charges, you will be informed of the estimated costs and you must advise the University whether or not you want to proceed with the request.

If you are requesting your own personal information, there are no initial fees, but you may be charged for producing a copy of the record(s).
