Many of the exercises of the Destinos textbook and workbook are of the identification type; others are fill-in-the-blank. While identification and filling in the blanks may help in the comprehension of Spanish, and to some extent in the learning of vocabulary and grammar, additional exercises are needed to give you more written practice. To this end, six Tutor Marked Written Exercises (TMWEs) have been included in the Assignment Manual. Complete each TMWE after you have studied and done all the oral and written exercises for which you have answers for a given lesson, or of a number of lessons, and send it to your tutor for marking.

Note: You are to take only ONE oral exercise at a time.

There is a TMWE for every four, in some cases, five, lessons of the 26 in the course textbook. The TMWE may consist of the following components.

  • Exercises containing grammatical structures based mostly on the lessons you have just finished studying—which does not exclude material learned in previous lessons.
  • Exercises to check your correct use of the new vocabulary.
  • Questions based on your reading of a short paragraph or requiring you to narrate a situation from your own experience.
  • A short essay (Para escribir) designed to test your expression skills. This will be evaluated by your tutor but you will receive a single grade for a particular segment.
