Each of your written assignments will be graded according to the following criteria:
18-20 marks: Discussion goes well beyond the course materials, while remaining on topic, in addressing the question; moves the area of inquiry to a new level.
14-17 marks: Topic and purpose are clearly stated; the assignment question is clearly addressed and economically discussed.
10-13 marks: Discussion contains occasional lapses of relevance and veers off topic; evidence or argument presented is sometimes wordy or not clearly connected to the thesis statement.
0-9 marks: Assignment question is not addressed.
18-20 marks: Content is well organized; introduction and conclusion are interesting and compelling.
14-17 marks: Content clearly organized; ideas well presented.
10-13 marks: Content is organized but contains minor errors in conceptual presentation; examples or details are not clearly relevant; contains some wordiness or redundancy.
0-9 marks: Content is organized but several elements are missing.
18-20 marks: Excellent supporting detail is provided; citations are well chosen and presented in a consistent format; essay is complete and factually accurate.
14-17 marks: Contains appropriate examples and supporting details; citation style is consistent; minor errors in citation format occur.
10-13 marks: Clearly states topic and purpose and provides adequate examples and supporting details; minor errors in support occur and citation style contains occasional errors.
0-9 marks: States topic and purpose but provides poor examples and supporting detail; citation style is inconsistent or inadequate.
18-20 marks: Excellent use of language and well-defined technical terms.
14-17 marks: Good use of language; key terms are defined; essay is complete, clear, and accurate.
10-13 marks: Adequate use of language; key terms are used correctly but require defining; writing errors occur but they do not interfere with comprehension.
0-9 marks: Poor use of language; key terms are absent; essay is unclear, incomplete, or inaccurate.
18-20 marks: Sophisticated grasp of topic; concepts are empathetically and elegantly stated.
14-17 marks: Good grasp of topic with major concepts well illustrated and aptly stated.
10-13 marks: Adequate but mechanical grasp of topic; predictable misunderstandings occur.
0-9 marks: Poor or simplistic grasp of topic; predictable misunderstandings frequently occur.
