An important feature of Sociology 427 is the course instructor, whose first responsibility is to help you complete the course successfully. In this course, the instructor, or tutor, is Dr. Mike Sosteric, who also serves as the course coordinator. A letter containing Dr. Sosteric’s e-mail address, postal address, telephone number, and tutoring hours was mailed to you shortly before your start date. If you have not received this letter by your start date, contact Learning Services—Tutorial at Athabasca University as soon as possible. Dr. Sosteric has excellent academic qualifications and a broad range of academic interests; he is committed to helping you learn at a distance. In addition, he will be responsible for marking your assignments. In general, you should call your instructor first with any queries concerning Athabasca University.
If you have not received a call from your instructor by your start date, make the first call yourself. You may contact your instructor by e-mail, or, if you live in Canada or the United States, by telephone, toll-free, during regular tutoring hours by following the instructions provided in the tutor letter. If you live outside Canada or the United States and you want to telephone your instructor, please refer to the tutor letter; you will be responsible for telephone charges. If you are unable to take advantage of the regular tutoring hours, speak with your instructor to determine whether alternative arrangements can be made.
When sending assignments to your instructor, attach a Tutor-Marked Exercise Form. Keep a copy of the assignment in case the original becomes lost en route. Please allow several working days (in addition to mailing time each way if you use conventional mail) before you expect to receive the graded assignment. Your instructor will be pleased to provide additional feedback; be sure to mention any questions you have about the assignment or the grade. Assignments may be submitted for course credit as attachments to electronic mail. You may use e-mail to submit assignments, but do not complete assignments as e-mail. Also attach an electronic Tutor-Marked Exercise Form, available through the myAU Portal.
