Welcome to Religious Studies 380: Advanced Studies in the Hebrew Bible, a three-credit, senior-level course. The Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament, has long been important to both Judaism and Christianity, and to readers who have appreciated it for its literary value and historical importance. Religious Studies 380 will acquaint you with the texts of the Hebrew Bible and the attempts of scholars to shed light on the meaning of the stories, poems and instruction that it contains. As well, the methods for interpreting ancient texts that you will learn have important applications beyond the realm of Hebrew Bible Studies.

Prerequisite: RELS 204, an equivalent course at another Canadian university or permission of the course instructor. Also strongly recommended are a senior level English course and a course in Biblical Studies or Old Testament Studies from a secular post-secondary education institution.
