Learning Objectives
When you have completed Unit 5, you should be able to achieve the following learning objectives.
- Describe the unique challenges for and contributions of Aboriginal women.
- Clarify the diversity of views of Aboriginal women, and outline their perspectives regarding developments in Aboriginal governments.
- Discuss the unique experiences of Aboriginal people living in urban areas, the unique challenges associated with the development of self-governing institutions for urban Aboriginal people, and the proposed solutions to such challenges.
- Outline reasons why the Canadian justice system is said by many people to be inappropriate with respect to Aboriginal people.
- Describe what is meant by traditional justice systems, how they are distinct from the contemporary Canadian system of justice, and how traditional and Canadian justice mechanisms might be combined to form an effective system.
