Nutrition and Exercise
Overview
In this unit, we discuss the relationships among nutrition, health, and exercise, including the effect of exercise on health and the special nutritional needs imposed by various levels of activity.
Objectives
After completing this unit, you should be able to
- discuss the benefits of physical fitness.
- discuss the way the body uses glucose, fat, and protein for different activities of varying intensity and duration.
- describe the technique of carbohydrate loading.
- discuss the nutritional concerns of athletes, specifically iron, fluids, and electrolytes.
- describe a diet that will generally meet the needs of physically active people.
