Unit 1 of this Study Guide provides a review of the mathematical operations you must be able to do in order to complete Mathematics 244 successfully. The topics reviewed include

• the order of operations in mathematics;
• fractions, fractional algebraic expressions, and decimals;

Objectives

1. Use properties of basic operations to simplify arithmetic questions involving real whole numbers, both positive and negative.
2. Understand the order of operations in mathematics.
3. Convert fractions to decimals, decimals to fractions, and use properties of basic operations to simplify fractional arithmetic expressions.
4. Perform basic arithmetic operations using percentages.
5. Calculate simple weighted averages.
