Your final grade in Mathematics 244: Business Mathematics is based on the grades you achieve in four assignments and two examinations. The assignments are worth a total of 20 per cent of your final grade. The midterm examination is worth 35 per cent, and the final examination is worth 45 per cent. You must pass the midterm examination with a mark of at least 50 per cent of the possible grade on the midterm examination as well as the final examination with a mark of at least 50 per cent of the possible grade on the final examination, in order to receive credit for the course. Note: Students who do not achieve a minimum passing grade of 50 per cent on an examination will be allowed to write a supplemental examination. There is a fee for supplemental services.
Students may use the textbook and a calculator in the examination. A formula sheet will be provided with examinations. A copy of this formula sheet is attached at the end of the Assignment Manual. The Study Guide, marked assignments, solution manuals, and problem solutions are not permitted in the examination.
Assignments are to be mailed to your tutor at the address specified in your Tutor Letter. Your tutor will mark the assignments, and return them to you with feedback and corrections to help improve your understanding of the course material.
Examinations are booked through the University. You must write the examination at an approved examination centre. Athabasca University has made arrangements for examination centres across the country. You must make arrangements to write your examinations at one of these centres and inform Athabasca University Examinations to which centre it must send your examination. You can find out where these centres are and book your examination online through the University website.
You will have three (3) hours to complete the Midterm Examination and three (3) hours to complete the Final Examination. The examinations are similar in format to the assignments. To prepare yourself for the examinations, take a random sample of 20 questions from the chapter review problems, self-test exercises, and assignments, and try to complete them in three hours. That will give you an idea of the time pressure you will face in the examinations.
The Midterm covers Units 1 to 7 inclusive in the Study Guide. The Final Examination covers Units 8 to 12 of the Study Guide only.
examinations are not returned to students.
