Unit 4
Quadratics

Objectives

After completing this unit, you should be able to

  1. solve equations involving quadratic polynomials, either through factoring, or by the use of the quadratic formula.
  2. plot the graph of a quadratic polynomial, including the location of the vertex and the axis of symmetry, given either the equation of the function, or the location of the directrix and focus.
  3. plot the graph of a circle or ellipse, given the equation, or determine the equation of the circle or ellipse given information about its radius, centre, and in the case of the ellipse, vertices.
  4. convert between the graph of a hyperbolic curve, given vertices and slant asymptotes, and the equation of the hyperbola in standard form, and vice versa.
