Students who approach their studies in a systematic and organized manner are more likely to complete the course successfully than are those who do not plan a course of action for themselves. Attempt to follow a study schedule. This strategy will help you to budget your time and monitor your progress.
Four study schedules are provided to help you organize your activities and complete the course within the time frame you have available. We anticipate that many students will seek to complete the course in six to eight weeks of intensive work, so keeping on track is crucial.
No matter which study schedule you choose, please note that you must submit your request to write an examination at least twenty working days before you plan to write the examination.
Unit 4 is the longest unit of the course, and you should expect to spend a fair amount of time on it. Unit 1 is the second longest, but will be slow-going for some as it introduces the notion of a function with accompanying notation that will be central to the approach used to study other topics in the course.
Students must undertake any review of background materials for this course on their own as we have been unable to allow time for them in the study schedules. The AU Math Centre (login with your AU student ID and password) is a good place to start your review of basic mathematical concepts. It was designed for this course program and it also includes supplementary tutorials on topics in the Math 101 program itself.
