Being able to work with algebraic expressions is an important skill that you will need to solve complex problems. In this unit, we explore several techniques for algebraic problem solving.

Objectives

After completing this unit, you should be able to

1. factor algebraic expressions.
2. work with algebraic fractional expressions.
3. convert a fractional equation into a linear equation in one unknown, and solve that equation.
4. solve quadratic equations using either the quadratic formula or the technique of factoring.
