Welcome to Labour Studies 202: Labour College of Canada: Introduction to Labour Studies, a three-credit, junior-level course.

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the field of labour studies and to prepare you for the Labour College of Canada’s residential program. It consists of five units covering labour history, the workplace, trade unions, and the future of work and unions. In the course you will read three textbooks. You will be guided in your reading by a detailed Study Guide including study questions and commentary on the textbooks. During the course you will also complete a series of written assignments. There are no examinations in this course.

Labour Studies 202: Labour College of Canada: Introduction to Labour Studies replaces the old Labour College of Canada correspondence course. It differs from the previous course in that this course is a three-credit, university-level course. Besides providing students with a firm foundation for the Labour College of Canada residential program, it introduces students to the academic field of labour studies and to a range of labour studies and industrial relations courses at Athabasca University. This collaboration allows the Labour College of Canada to take advantage of Athabasca University’s expertise in distance education. It also provides Athabasca University with the opportunity to fulfill its mandate of breaking down barriers that traditionally restrict access to post-secondary education.
